At least one PhD position is available, supported by a scholarship that
includes a monthly stipend and tuition fees, with the "Biased Games in
Social Choice" project at the School of Computer Science and Engineering
(SCSE) of the Nanyang Technological University (NTU).
PhD starting date is either January 2018 or August 2018.

ABOUT THE PROJECT: Biased Games in Social Choice

Game Theory is applied in the field of Social Choice, which deals with
opinion aggregation to select an alternative reasonably acceptable by a
community, to analyse the effects of strategic expressions by community
members. An example of such strategic expression is a candidate in a
political election that withdraws from the race to ensure the victory of
another candidate. Game Theoretical analysis allows to formally capture and
analyse the range of possible outcomes of such behaviours.

In the "Biased Games in Social Choice" project, a particular flavour of
behaviours is investigated where a player's benefit from any opinion
expression is offset, i.e. biased. E.g., to maintain the ostensible party
unity, a political candidate would rather not run at all, than compete
against anohter party member and lose. The project will concentrate on
seeking real world human-like biases in Social Choice domains and capturing
them in game theoretic models.

ABOUT THE SCHOOL:
The School of Computer Science and Engineering (SCSE) is part of the
