2015 IJCAI Workshop on AI in Space
25 July - 31 July 2015 - Buenos Aires, Argentina

Artificial Intelligence is making significant inroads in the space sector.
AI systems are contributing to numerous space missions such as Hubble Space
Telescope, Mars Exploration Rovers, the International Space Station, and
Mars Express.

The workshop, co-organized by the the Artificial Intelligence Group (
http://ai.jpl.nasa.gov/) of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory of the National
Aeronautics and Space Administration and the Advanced Concepts Team (
www.esa.int/act) of the European Space Agency and examines the most recent
applications and research related to artificial intelligence and space,
reviewing the current state of the dialogue between the two areas. The
workshop is part of the larger IJCAI conference (http://ijcai15.org/).

The workshop is the 5th in the series of prior workshops held in Hyderabad,
India (at IJCAI 2007), Pasadena, CA (at IJCAI 2009), Barcelona, Catalonia
(at IJCAI 2011), and Beijing, China (at IJCAI 2013).

The workshop includes AI topics, which already are, or may be of particular
interest in the future from the space applications point of view, excepting
Planning, Scheduling, and Execution, which is covered in the Sister
Workshop, International Workshop on Planning and Scheduling for Space (also
held co-located with IJCAI 2015).

Those topics include but are not limited to:

 • Intelligent search and optimization methods in aerospace applications
 • All forms of instrument data processing for ground-based and onboard
science analysis
 • Image analysis for Guidance Navigation and Control
 • Autonomous exploration of interplanetary and planetary environments
 • Artificial Life and Swarm Intelligence for space applications
 • Intelligent algorithms for fault identification, diagnosis and repair
 • Multi-agent systems approach and bio-inspired solutions for system
design and control
 • Advances in machine learning for space applications
 • Intelligent interfaces for human-machine interaction
 • Knowledge Discovery, Data Mining and presentation of large data sets

Papers and Abstract submissions
There are two kinds of submissions: full papers (up to 6 pages) and
extended abstracts (up to 4 pages).  Both should be formatted in the AAAI
Style and submitted to EasyChair as pdf files.
