Computing Corps
To: ECEP state leads <ecep-state-leads at googlegroups.com>

The STARS Computing Corps has committed to a partnership with ECEP to
identify ways to align our activities to meet a common goal: *providing
equitable access to inclusive computing education to all students.* As part
of this partnership, we are asking STARS and ECEP leaders to connect and
share more about their local and state-level activities.

*Will you, as an ECEP member, be willing to connect with a STARS leader in
your state for an initial information sharing conference call? *STARS
members will be tasked with creating a report of activities and a plan for
alignment and sharing with ECEP. Stipends are available for participating
STARS and ECEP members for Summer 2018. Please indicate your willingness
for a STARS member to contact you at https://goo.gl/forms/Tl3UpHJqqfOujREE3 or
by emailing payton at temple.edu by July 2, 2018! Details below.

*More about STARS:*

Like ECEP, STARS is an NSF Broadening Participation in Computing Alliance.
The STARS mission is to develop college students and faculty as leaders who
take action to broaden participation in computing. At participating
academic member institutions, STARS faculty support STARS students as they
lead computer science service-learning activities, including near-peer
outreach that introduces K-12 students to computing and within-department
peer tutoring, mentoring, and research collaborations. Over 80 faculty and
2600 college students, mostly from underrepresented groups (47% women; 41%
black; 10% Hispanic), from 53 universities have taken an active role in
broadening participation through STARS, reaching over 140,000 K12 students
in STARS outreach projects.

*More about the goals of the STARS/ECEP Partnership:*
STARS has committed to work with ECEP state leaders to 1)
inform STARS members about ECEP state-level reform initiatives and 2)
inform ECEP members about STARS activities and 3) facilitate collaboration
between STARS and ECEP to align activities at STARS institutions
with ECEP state-level initiatives.

*More about ECEP member participation:*

Participating ECEP members are asked to:

1. *Participate in an initial conference call with a STARS leader in
their state*. STARS members schedule the call and interview their
ECEP contact to learn more about ECEP initiatives, share info about
STARS activities, and build partnerships with ECEP members.

2. P*rovide feedback on a one-page report of potential STARS/ECEP
alignment prepared by the STARS leader in their state.*

3. *Encourage STARS faculty to stay connected to ECEP.* Following
the ECEP connection, STARS faculty will participate in ECEP conference
calls.

4. *(optional) Attend STARS/ECEP collaboration meeting at STARS
Celebration.* Travel funds will be provided. STARS Celebration is
co-located with Tapia Celebration on Sept. 22, 2018 in Orlando, FL.

*More about ECEP participation support:* Participating ECEP representatives
can receive a $1000 stipend for their participation for Summer 2018 and a
travel stipend to attend a STARS/ECEP meeting at the STARS Celebration on
Sept. 22, 2018.

*Say yes to a phone call with STARS! *
