Hello CS education supporters!

We've spoken to many of you as the application deadline approaches this
week. *We are extending the deadline to Sunday, March 4th at 11:59 PM PT.*
We are accepting applications for PD programs focused on building CS
capacity for middle and high school teachers as well as pre-service
educators. We've collected the most frequently asked questions over the
past two months below to help guide your application.

*Apply <https://goo.gl/7vnGJB> before March 4th at 11:59 PM PT!*

------------------------------
*INSIGHTS TO FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS*

*1) I'm a first time PD provider. How do I get started? *
*We recommend you read the University of Chicago landscape study "Building
an Operating System for Computer Science Education
<http://outlier.uchicago.edu/computerscience/OS4CS/landscapestudy/>" as a
first step. Find local expert PD providers in your area, like CS faculty at
a university or community college, to leverage their experience in CS PD.
In your application, explain why you're interested in providing PD and how
you will design a PD program that is **customized for the needs of
educators in your community.*

*2) How do I decide what content to use for my PD program? *
*There are many different PD content options available to PD providers. You
might choose to leverage an existing content module, create your own or
customize existing content for your educators. Research supports that the
best way **to assess the content needs of educators is to design the PD
program with them. If possible, survey your educators and ask them what
content they need to be successful with CS in their classrooms. *

*3) I'm interested in applying but don't have many partnerships already
established with groups of educators. *
*We understand that partnerships take time to develop and in many cases,
first time PD providers will not have that foundation yet. We are
interested in funding PD programs that are thinking of the long-term
sustainability for CS educator PD. Provide an explanation of how you
anticipate to build those partnerships and why those partnerships are
particularly important for your community. *

*4) I read your budget guidelines. What does the cost-per-teacher mean? *
*We want to see that you've allocated sufficient funds to support teacher
engagement and that it's proportional to the needs of the community. The
dollar-per-teacher estimate is intended to encourage your team to be
mindful of how your resources are allocated. *

------------------------------
*REVIEW APPLICATION RESOURCES *

   1. *Learn* how past Grantees
   <https://edu.google.com/computer-science/educator-grants/grantees.html>
like the University of Alabama or Broward County Public School District
built tailored PD programs that have had lasting impact for teachers in
   their communities.
   2. *Use* the application companion <https://goo.gl/WgJFCA> as a guide to
design a PD program that focuses on high quality PD that is useful and
effective for educators in your local area.
   3. *Watch* the YouTube Live discussions <https://goo.gl/aVKUWa> to hear
a more in-depth discussion about the qualities of a successful application.

*Remember to apply <https://goo.gl/7vnGJB> for a CS PD grant* before March
4th. *To learn more about exemplary PD programs and learn from previous
Grantees, visit the Grantee resources page on our website. Please reach out
to our team if you have any questions or comments (CSedugrants at google.com).

Kindly yours,

Olga and the Google CS education team
