Highlights from today's ECEP meeting.

Lots of conjecture about where the money is coming from for the $200
million dedicated to CS education.

STARS program is in Loyola and Bowie state in MD. Curriculum for the credit
college class was shared.

ECEP mini grants: Deadline extended 2 weeks for mini grants

Mini-Grant RFP located on the ECEP Google Site :
https://sites.google.com/a/ecep.cs.umass.edu/ecep-nsf/shared-documents/assoc-state-mini-grants

Other uses of mini grants: SC did a landscape study that led to updated CS
standards (Quinn Burke) Discovered that rural areas were not offering CS.

Summit and landscape study in NH. Challenging to get business data. Nice
looking landscape report (a grad student did great formatting)

Anne Leftwich, IN, they brought together PLTW, COde facilitators and
others. This is a great idea to build facilitators in the state. Working
with the governor’s office. Also meeting with the department of ed.
Governor’s office pledging millions. Announcement to come soon.

Patty: They brought Dale Reed and did the first ECS in Spanish. Created a
strong bond between teachers. Got a meeting with the secretary for
education. PR has other problems right now, obviously. Discussing
DonorsChoose to get funding for rebuilding.

Cindi Nevada, they have new K12 CS standards. In internal review currently,
will go public any day now.

Carol TX, working on ECEP 2.0. Sara, Maureen, and Anne are all coming to
Austin next week to work on details. Conference still not finalized. Will
submit to NSF, meet at CSforAll. Currently looking at January in NC. Team
of 14 people to plan the annual meeting.

Alabama Draft CS Standards released for internal comment Will be made for
public release soon.

Hal and Carol are doing Hour of Code in the Rotunda this year with TX
legislators. Other states are thinking of doing the same thing. Dell will
loan PCs, other sponsors, Facebook. Kids will teach legislators their first
lines of code.

IDEA: collaborate with CEASOM and add more CS opportunities to their common
ground conference in Ocean City. http://www.commongroundmd.org/housing.html
That will forge a stronger connection with Eastern Shore. Make this a place
to grow our area advocates. Possibly make a mini grant out of this?
Registration costs $190/ per person for the 2 days.
