The heterogeneity </div><div class="">and large scale of these systems require novel design techniques, architectures </div><div class="">and software infrastructures able to integrate independent (sub)systems to </div><div class="">support their seamless cooperation, even through emergent behaviors. In </div><div class="">addition, the continuous servicing process enabled by the recent microservices </div><div class="">paradigm leads to rely on evolving approaches able to anticipate, mitigate, or </div><div class="">react to unplanned scenarios.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">Each system of a SoS must both exist as an independent entity and become part </div><div class="">of wider systems when needed. This vision radically changes the notion of </div><div class="">“integrated” system: (a) (sub)systems offer limited interaction capabilities </div><div class="">and little possibility to be controlled; (b) cooperation can be ad-hoc and only </div><div class="">needed in specific cases or conditions; (c) in many cases there is no prior, </div><div class="">complete, knowledge of the (sub)systems; (d) SoS behaviors can be partially </div><div class="">unplanned to follow environment or requirement changes.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">The goal of the GAUSS (Governing Adaptive and Unplanned Systems of Systems) </div><div class="">workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners working on the </div><div class="">design, the development, the validation, and the continuous maintenance of </div><div class="">System of Systems. In this context, specific emphasis to methods and approaches </div><div class="">focusing on ensuring desired sets of quality attributes (e.g., reliability, </div><div class="">security, resilience) that SoSs must satisfy is given.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">In addition, research works on distributed and adaptive system are also subject </div><div class="">of interest for the GAUSS Workshop. Indeed, topics on dynamic modules </div><div class="">integration, autonomous reaction to unplanned scenarios, or dynamic evolution </div><div class="">of operational and managerial assets are source of changes that often </div><div class="">potentially affect the overall environment (i.e. the SoS) too, consequently </div><div class="">they are in the scope of the workshop too.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class=""><b class="">The GAUSS workshop will accept regular papers reporting on new research, and </b></div><div class=""><b class="">presentations of Journal First Papers.
