Overview
========

The first workshop on “Lightweight AI-based Services (LAIS 2024)” is held
in conjunction with the 22nd International Conference on Service-Oriented
Computing (ICSOC 2024). LAIS 2024 aims to bring together AI researchers and
experts on embedded systems to discuss the development of artificial
intelligence services (AI services) and their deployment on edge and IoT
devices, where hardware resources might be limited, and real-time
processing is crucial. AI services typically use deep learning models that
require significant computational resources, making them difficult to
deploy on resource-limited devices such as IoT sensors. Processing such
sensor data remotely using high-performance Cloud servers raises challenges
in data privacy and communication bandwidth, especially in regions with
limited connectivity. To address these issues, various methods have been
proposed, including quantization, pruning, low-rank factorization,
knowledge distillation (KD), and neural architecture search (NAS).

Topics
======

LAIS 2024 seeks original submissions, demonstration papers,
work-in-progress research, and literature papers (e.g., SLR, survey) that
define and discuss novel lightweight AI services specifically designed and
optimized for deployment on resource-limited devices (e.g., IoT sensors).
We invite papers on, but not limited to, the following topics:

-- Compression methods (e.g., pruning, quantization) for deep learning
models
-- Knowledge distillation approaches for deploying deep learning models on
resource-limited devices
-- Lightweight AI services for health monitoring
-- Lightweight AI services for environmental monitoring
-- Lightweight AI services for smart farming
-- Neural architecture search for developing lightweight deep learning
models
-- Lightweight deep learning models as services
-- Privacy and ethical considerations in the implementation and deployment
of AI health services on personal devices (i.e., IoT sensors)

Important Dates
===============

Paper submission: 26 September 2024
Notification to authors: 24 October 2024
Camera-ready papers due: 31 October 2024
Workshop date: 3 December 2024

Submission and Publication
==========================

Authors are invited to submit full papers (with a maximum length of 12
pages, including references and appendices) using the Springer LNCS format.
Authors must upload their paper as a PDF file using the EasyChair platform:
https://easychair.org/my/conference?conf=icsoc2024 and* by selecting
"Workshop on Lightweight AI-based Services"*

If any problem arises when submitting your paper, please contact:
afef.mdhaffar at enis.tn

Each paper will be reviewed by at least three members of the international
program committee to ensure high quality. Paper acceptance will be based on
originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity of
presentation. All accepted papers will be included in the workshop
proceedings published as part of the Lecture Notes in Computer Science
(LNCS) series of Springer.

At least one author of an accepted paper must register and participate in
the workshop. Registration is subject to the terms, conditions, and
procedures of the main ICSOC conference, which can be found on their
website: http://www.icsoc.org/
