The very recent AI Policy Lab at UmeåUniversity is seeking two
postdoctoral candidates to work on transparency and on justice
respectively. The Lab, which is led by Prof. Dr. Virginia Dignum has a
strong international position, with focus on fundamental research,
implementation and integration, and advocacy of AI policy. We operate at
the intersection of computer science and social science and humanities,
fostering a multidisciplinary and collaborative environment.
Excellent candidates are encouraged to apply to one of the following
positions:
-*Postdoc on AI transparency*: The postdoctoral fellow will focus on
developing models, theories, and tools for the specification,
monitoring, and evaluation of the transparency of AI systems. This
research will address the complexity of AI decision-making processes,
develop interpretable formal models to assess the impact of transparency
on accountability and user trust and adoption. The role involves
addressing ethical and legal considerations and devising computational
methods to measure and improve the transparency of AI systems across
various domains. Application link:

-*Postdoc on AI justice*: The postdoctoral fellow will be tasked with
exploring and developing theory and tools on key questions such as
formal definitions of justice in AI in computationally tractable ways,
detecting and mitigating biases in algorithms, and assessing AI's impact
on marginalized communities. The role demands a formal understanding of
algorithmic accountability, policy development for equitable AI, and the
development of methods and tools to balance AI's efficiency with
fairness principles. Ideal candidates should be passionate about shaping
AI technologies to promote global equity and inclusion, backed by a
