We have a postdoctoral research position available on artificial
intelligence optimization approaches (including heuristic search,
planning and constraint programming) for warehouse automation at the
University of Southern California in Los Angeles (California, USA),
starting as early as October 2022. Our project tackles planning,
coordination and other optimization problems for the many robots that
transport goods in warehouses of e-commerce companies and/or interact
with human workers. The position is initially limited to one year but
renewable by mutual consent for up to three years. Applicants should
have a Ph.D. in computer science, operations research, robotics or a
related field and publications in top venues of their research area.
Experience in warehouse automation is not required. The salary will be
commensurate with experience.
The successful applicant will participate in the NSF-funded AI Institute
on Advances in Optimization with researchers from artificial
intelligence, machine learning and operations research from the
University of Southern California, Georgia Institute of Technology,
University of California at Berkeley, and other universities. They will
have lots of latitude in determining the overall research direction of
the project and the opportunity to advise graduate and undergraduate
students.
The Viterbi School of Engineering of the University of Southern
California is ranked top 15 in the United States by US News & World
Report. Los Angeles is a great place to live due to its Mediterranean
climate, diverse restaurant scene and large number of tourist and
cultural attractions.
To apply for this position, please send your CV and the names and email
addresses of three references to Sven Koenig (skoenig at usc.edu). To find
