Postdoc TU Delft - Socially Adaptive Behavior Support Agents

We are looking for a research PostDoc. The position focuses on behaviour support agents for helping people with chronic diseases, such as people with diabetes, to engage with their social environment and establish the conditions for a healthier lifestyle. Specifically, the work focuses on how a conversational agent with a reinforcement learning algorithm can support individuals and their social networks to improve these social conditions. The postdoc will empirically investigate this with a user study. For example, the study could be conducted on a crowd worker platform where people repeatedly engage with a conversation agent, allowing examination of the impact and acceptance of conversational agents and the underlying persuasion algorithm.

This position is part of the 4TU programme "Pride & Prejudice - Tackling chronic disease prevention through real-life monitoring and context-aware intervention design" (prideandprejudice.nl<http://prideandprejudice.nl/>). Central to the Pride & Prejudice programme is the combination of monitoring in real-life through sensors (food intake, physical activity and health parameters) with the development of health-promoting interventions at different levels of the system (person, group, society), and evaluation of the (long-term) effectiveness of these combined interventions.

As a postdoc, your tasks concern the following activities:

  * perform a sound scientific empirical research study
  * develop a working conversational agent, for example, with RASA.
  * publish the work in a renowned scientific journal
  * participate in activities of the research group and project team
  * limited participation in teaching activities of the research group.

Requirements

We are looking for candidates who meet the following requirements:

  * a PhD degree in computer science, human-technology interaction, artificial intelligence or a closely related field
  * Good programming skills (e.g. capable of developing conversational agents)
  * Experience in setting up, executing and analysing an empirical study
  * Experience with machine learning, specifically to implement a reinforcement learning algorithm
  * Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written English
  * Some expertise in or affinity with ethics of information technology is useful.
