** Extended Deadline for submissions: July 10, 2021

Scope and aim
============
Sustainable Development (SD) has become a worldwide concern in the last
decades as scientists, the industry, governments, and society alike become
increasingly aware of the negative impacts of the shortage of essential
resources on peoples’ lives and their very existence on earth.
To establish an effective roadmap to materialise a sustainable world, the
United Nations General Assembly set up in 2015 an ambitious plan
encompassing 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a "blueprint to
achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.” The UN’s Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs), also known as Agenda 2030, aim to address global
challenges including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental
degradation, peace, and justice. Naturally, the increasing interest in
artificial intelligence (AI) especially across recent years has
demonstrated AI is progressively playing a wider impact on many different
sectors, and certainly is expected to greatly contribute to leverage the
achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in Agenda 2030.

More than a timely subject, the Workshop on Advancing Sustainable
Development with AI (WASDAI) at the IEEE ISC2 2021 aims to serve as an
appropriate platform to promote an active discussion on the challenges and
opportunities for AI to advance sustainable development and help achieve
the ambitious goals set up by UN in its Agenda 2030. WASDAI, therefore,
constitutes a stimulating environment gathering researchers and
practitioners to share their knowledge, latest developments, and
reflections on how UN’s SDG can be leveraged on AI theories, techniques and
tools in a rather interdisciplinary way. The WASDAI workshop is also
co-organised by the IEEE ITS Society’s Technical Activity Committee on
Artificial Transportation System and Simulation.

Submission
==========

Prospective authors are invited to submit high quality original Full or
Short papers via the EDAS submission site (link
<https://www.edas.info/newPaper.php?c=28313&track=107676>). Full papers
should describe novel research contributions with evaluation results and
are limited to seven (7) pages. Short papers, limited in length to four (4)
pages, should be more visionary in nature and are meant to discuss new
challenges and visions, highlight early research results, and explore novel
research directions.
All submitted papers must be unpublished and not considered elsewhere for
publication. Manuscripts should be written in English and formatted
according to the IEEE Template. Each submitted paper will undergo the
standard IEEE peer-review process and, if accepted and presented at the
Workshop, will appear in the IEEE ISC2 2021 conference proceedings, to be
submitted and included in the IEEE Xplore digital library.
