The Individual and Collective Reasoning Group (ICR, Department of Computer Science, University of Luxembourg), led by Prof. Leon van der Torre, is looking for

• 1 PhD student (doctoral candidate) in Knowledge Representation and Reasoning within the DILLAN training program

DILLAN – DigitaLisation, Law, And Innovation – is an interdisciplinary program for PhD students in Law and Computer Science (https://wwwen.uni.lu/research/fdef/dl/dillan), funded by the PRIDE scheme of the FNR (National Research Fund, Luxembourg).

In the context of DILLAN we are looking for someone with a special interest or background in one or several of the following areas:
- Knowledge representation and reasoning with applications to law
- Applied formal argumentation
- Explainable AI for trustworthy systems
- Experimental studies on explanation in legal reasoning
- Integration of non-symbolic and symbolic techniques

Your Task
• Writing a doctoral dissertation in the relevant area
• Presentation of research findings at workshops and conferences
• Publication of scientific papers in peer-reviewed international journals
• Moderate participation in teaching activities

Your Profile
• A Master degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
• Solid background in knowledge representation and reasoning
• Active participation in the interdisciplinary activities of our group
• Strong analytical capacity, creativity, and commitment
• Very good written and spoken English skills
