The University of Luxembourg is seeking to hire a highly motivated and an outstanding research (and development) specialist in the area of drone swarm intelligence for its Interdisciplinary Centre of Security and Trust (SnT), within the Parallel Computing and Optimisation Group (PCOG), led by Prof. Pascal Bouvry.

Organization:
SnT carries out interdisciplinary research in secure, reliable and trustworthy ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) systems and services, often in collaboration with governmental, industrial and international partners. SnT is active in several national projects funded by National Research Fund (FNR) and local industries, and international research projects funded by the EU FP7 programme, H2020 programme and the European Space Agency (ESA). The Parallel Computing & Optimisation Group (PCOG) is conducting research on parallel computing and optimization techniques, in particular new research topics include decentralized optimization techniques that nevertheless lead to a good global behavior of the system.
The main application domains of the team fit the University of Luxembourg priorities:
- Security, trust and reliability, for example, cryptology, intrusion detection, and reliable scheduling and routing on new generations of networks such as p2p, ad-hoc, and hybrids.
- Unmanned autonomous vehicles (UAV), Smart Cities
- Sustainable development, for instance, Energy Efficient Data Centers
- Systems biomedecine, for example, genomic sequencing, protein folding, genomic modeling
Your Role:
The successful candidate will be part of the Swarm Intelligent Missions systeMS (SIMMS) project financed by the FNR Proof-of-Concept (PoC) program and will conduct research and development on swarms of UAVs. The candidate’s tasks include the following:
- Designing and implementing state-of-the-art drone swarming solutions,
- Managing the project development,
- Validating and demonstrating the solutions (simulation and real tests).

Your Profile
- Master degree in any discipline relevant to this area of research (e.g., computer science, robotics),
- Strong development skills in C++ and/or ROS,
- Expertise in Robotics (preferably drones),
- Experience with optimisation algorithms is highly desirable,
- Experience in managing projects,
- Commitment, team working and a critical mind,
- Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are mandatory.
