Hands-on lab sessions
At the beach!

EVENT DESCRIPTION
-----------------
Planning and Scheduling are central aspects of Artificial Intelligence,
providing intelligent agents with the ability to reason about how and when
to act. The methods developed over the past two decades of research in
Planning and Scheduling are relevant for a wide range of applications, from
industrial automation to robot control. The 10th International Summer
School on Automated Planning and Scheduling will be held in Noordwijk, The
Netherlands, directly at the beach, and directly before the 2018 ICAPS
conference in Delft, The Netherlands. The school proposes an intense four
day educational program for graduate students and young researchers. The
special aim of this edition is to bring together researchers interested in
sequential decision making problems (aka planning under uncertainty),
bridging in particular across traditional AI Planning research and
Monte-Carlo tree search (MCTS) as well as Machine Learning (ML). The
lectures will cover a broad range of topics relevant to this endeavour,
including modeling languages, basic MDP solution methods, sampling-based
algorithms like MCTS, reinforcement learning, classical planning models and
approximations to generate search guidance, as well as applications in
traffic control, computational sustainability, and robotics. The lectures
will be accompanied by a track of lab sessions in which school participants
can gain hands-on experience with the models and techniques presented in
the lectures.
