The Department of Information Science is part of the Otago Business School, which has an international reputation for excellence in teaching and research. We are now seeking to make two permanent academic appointments at Lecturer/Senior Lecturer level.

The Role



We are looking for candidates from all areas of Information Science, including Software Engineering, Information Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Human-Computer Interaction, and Health Informatics. The department has a strong international reputation in the fields of Autonomous Systems, Evolutionary Computation, Virtual and Augmented Reality, Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning, and Software Project Management.



A particular focus on the ability to teach Information Security and Assurance is required for one of the vacant positions.



In teaching and research, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with a range of areas within the department and university-wide. It is expected that you will develop an independent and productive research programme.



Selection Criteria



• PhD degree (essential).

• Active research portfolio, with evidence of high-quality work (essential).

• Industry experience or exposure to non-academic aspects of the discipline (beneficial).

• Experience with building technical artefacts (information systems, software components, prototypes) (beneficial).

• Prior teaching experience is beneficial (essential for appointment at Senior Lecturer).

• Collaborative and collegial approach to teaching and research.



To be successful in this role, you will ideally combine technical understanding with an ability to apply information science to the wider world.

These are permanent, full-time confirmation path (“tenure track”) positions.
