SASO 2018 -Call for Posters and Demos
The 15th International Conference on Autonomic Computing (ICAC 2018) and the 12th International Conference on Self-Adaptive and Self-Organizing Systems (SASO 2018), under the federated umbrella of FAS* 2018 – Foundations and Applications of Self* Systems, in addition to their main technical programs, solicit the submission of posters and demos on specific aspects of autonomic software and systems, particularly relating to the subject areas indicated by the ICAC and SASO calls for papers.
Posters provide a forum for authors to present their work in an informal and interactive setting. They allow authors and interested participants to connect to each other and to engage in discussions about the work presented. A poster submission should motivate its relevance to the autonomic computing community, summarize the challenges, experiences, or the cutting-edge ideas.
Demonstrations present an existing tool or research prototype. Authors are expected to perform a live demonstration on their own laptop during the poster and demonstration session. A demonstration submission must describe the novelty and the goals of the demonstration and key ideas involved in building the tool or prototype including possible users, use cases or specific results.
Important dates
Poster/demo submission deadline: June 4, 2018
Notification: July 13, 2018
Camera-ready copy: July 20, 2018
Conference: September 3-7, 2018
Submissions
For evaluation and selection, authors should submit an extended abstract of their poster or demo. Submissions are limited to 2 pages including references, double-column, IEEE format. All demo and poster submissions must represent original and unpublished work that is not currently under review. Submissions will be judged on originality, significance, interest, correctness, clarity, and relevance to the broader community.
Submissions should be formatted according to the IEEE Computer Society Press proceedings style guide. Authors should submit their papers using the EasyChair installation of the main conference, which is available at:
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=saso2018
Selection process
All extended abstracts will be reviewed by members of the Poster and Demo Committee and evaluated based on novelty, impact, technical soundness, relevance to the conference, and presentation. In case an extended abstract presents a software tool, the online availability of such tool and documentation to the reviewers will also be considered in the final decision.
Accepted posters and demos
If selected, authors shall prepare a final, camera ready version of the extended abstract, taking into account all feedback from reviewers. The extended abstract of selected posters and demos will be included in the FAS* 2018 Poster and Demo Proceedings, which will be published in IEEE Xplore.
Attendance
At least one author of each accepted submission is required to register at either ICAC or SASO. At the conference, each author is expected to present their work in the interactive poster/demo session.
Demo guidelines
At the conference, authors will present their live demos on their own computers and are invited to bring any other piece of equipment they may require (e.g., smart devices, sensors, actuators, robots, et cetera). Software simulations or video recordings can be accepted as an alternative if a live demo is not possible. Additionally, authors must bring a poster summarising their system and demo, following the poster guidelines.
Poster guidelines
The format of posters and the nature of poster sessions require authors to capture the viewer’s attention effectively, and present core concepts so as to clearly position the context of their work. For this reason, graphic representations, figures, and screenshots are typically the main medium of communication in successful posters. Few attendees will stop to read a large poster with dense text. If screenshots are used, please ensure that they print legibly and that the fonts are large enough to be read easily once printed. The recommended size for the poster is A0 and all poster authors are required to print and bring their posters at the conference.
Best demo award
A “Best Demo Award” will be awarded to the best demo. The award criteria include the quality of the submitted extended abstract and the quality of the live demo presentation during the posters and demos session.
Poster and demo chairs
Daniel J. Dubois, Northeastern University, USA
Kirstie L. Bellman, The Aerospace Corporation, USA
