Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) in Amsterdam has a vacancy in the “Intelligent and Autonomous Systems” research group for an excellent

        Postdoc

on the subject of Agent Systems, Dynamic Planning, and Logistics.

Job description
The research is part of a larger project, Scalable Interoperabiliy in Information Systems for Agile Supply Chains (SIISASC). The overall objective of SIISASC is to create pipeline interoperability in supply chains based on a federated approach, in which autonomous entities (e.g. organizations) are able to dynamically (re)plan their logistics activities. The project is in cooperation with TU Delft, TNO, and the companies Descartes and LogIT Systems. The project consists of fundamental research with an eye on applications and is carried out together with the partners. The project is funded by NWO (Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research).

The project objective is realized by doing research in three domains, on which a PhD student and two postdocs work. The domain of research for the current postdoc at CWI is that of dynamic planning, which investigates the (re)planning of activities in multi-agent logistic networks while the network may partly change in composition. Dynamic planning considers a goal to be reached (e.g. transport of cargo from the Far East to somewhere in Europe), without completely orchestrating all potential providers for reaching that goal. The research into dynamic planning interleaved with process orchestration and sharing customer goals and providing capabilities (i.e. capacities) in controlled communities is expected to contribute to synchro-modality and agile supply chains. The stepwise approach allows (re)planning of activities thus allowing supply chain agility.

Requirements
Postdoc candidates are required to have a PhD degree in computer science, artificial intelligence, mathematics, or in comparable areas. Candidates that are expected to obtain their PhD degree in the
near future can also apply. Candidates should have a clear interest in fundamental research, should be creative and solid in their research, should have (potential) interest in multi-agent systems and
optimization, and in the application area of logistcs, and should be able to cooperate with experts from different disciplines. It is essential that you have good academic writing and presentation skills. Candidates are expected to have an excellent command of English.

Terms and conditions Postdoc
The terms of employment are in accordance with the Dutch Collective Labour Agreement for Research Centres ("CAO-onderzoeksinstellingen"). The gross monthly salary for an employee on a full time basis,
depending on relevant work experience, ranges from € 3,409 to € 4,848. The appointment will be for a period of two years. Employees are also entitled to a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary and a year-end bonus of 8.33%. CWI offers attractive working conditions, including flexible scheduling.
