Artificial Intelligence (AI) can help us in many ways: it can perform hard, dangerous or boring work for us; can help us to save lives and cope with disasters; and, can entertain us and make our daily life more comfortable. Advances in AI are occurring at high speed.
As advances in AI occur at high speed, there is an increasing awareness that the discussion on responsible AI cannot be left behind. Can machines make moral decisions? Should artificial systems ever be treated as ethical entities? What are the legal and ethical consequences of human enhancement technologies, or cyber-genetic technologies? What are the consequences of extended government, corporate, and other organisational access to knowledge and predictions concerning citizen behaviour? How can moral, societal and legal values be part of the design process? How and when should the public intervene? Answering these and related questions requires a whole new understanding of Ethics with respect to control and autonomy, in the changing socio-technical reality.
This special issue contains state-of-the-art developments in Responsibility and Ethics in AI, introducing the views of leading researchers in the field. In particular we seek contributions on, but not limited to, the following topics:
- AI and human values
- AI impact on work, wealth and human interactions,
- AI in daily life: transport, healthcare, education, public safety and security, entertainment, employment and workplace, and entertainment
- Ethical Design of AI Systems: the role of designers, researchers and developers
- Responsibility, accountability and transparency of AI systems: how and whether to imbue ethical and moral concerns into AI systems
Authors will be invited to review each other's submissions so that cross referencing is possible.
All submissions will be double-blind reviewed by 3 independent reviewers.
