CALL FOR PAPERS
---------------------------------
International Workshop on Computation Sustainability, Technologies and Applications (CoSTA'2016)
12-13 September 2016 - London

SCOPE
---------------------------------
The more connected the world gets, the more data and information becomes available not only to monitor, but act upon the world and society. Addressing the needs of this society without burdening it is a complex task which requires different approaches. The field of computational sustainability although new in nomenclature has been applied in our society since the use of optimisation strategies and efficiency planning in computer science itself. Nevertheless, the current developments in the internet of things, smart-cities and intelligent environments propose new opportunities which can be used to the benefit of this society.
Topics that can address computational sustainability are characterised by the dimensions that they act upon. Taking the definition of Sustainability these are environment, economic and social. However, it not uncommon that applications span across dimensions such as human well-being, human behaviour and activity tracking, city transportation systems, city buildings management, renewable energy and energy efficiency. In order to achieve these solutions, approaches from computational sustainability often include machine learning, constraint reasoning and optimisation, sensor fusion, autonomous systems, among others.
This workshop has, as its main objective, to demonstrate new and original research on the topics related to computational sustainability applied to intelligent environments and smart-cities. Furthermore, techniques for design, assessment, monitoring and actuation to increase efficiency and optimisation are expected as general contributions.
