Project: NARECA (http://nareca.litislab.fr/)

Summary :
Modelling multimodal affective interaction is a well known
multidisciplinary problem in human-computer interaction. This modelling
is usually based on a corpus of multimodalannotated dialogues, whose
analysis consists in identifying a set of significant recurring
behaviours (i.e. providing a model).

The objective of this research project is to learn a multimodal
interaction model for a narrative virtual agent interacting with a
child. This interaction model will be based on a set of dialogic
patterns semi-automatically extracted from a training corpus. In the
corresponding use case, the corpus of dialogues consists in interactive
narrative sessions and our goal is to transform this data into an
interaction model by extracting patterns. Since this model is dedicated
to be integrated in a narrative virtual character, it will manage
multimodal and emotional components used both to recognize the child's
affect and to manage the verbal and non-verbal behaviour of thevirtual
character during an interactive storytelling session.

The research engineer assigned to the project will work closely with the
research staff of the project NARECA (permanent and post-doctoral) and
the other project partners (LIMSI, Psy.NCA, Greyc and Powowbox) to the
design and implementation of demonstrators. It will therefore mainly
work to
1) integrate the machine learning and pattern extractionalgorithms
developed during the project into theVIESA platform
(https://sourceforge.net/projects/viesa /), dedicated to dialogue analysis;
2) to deploy in a virtual agent the dialogic interaction model using the
AgentSlang platform (http://agent.roboslang.org/).
