The Information Science Department at the University of Otago, New Zealand, is seeking PhD students to work on topics aligned with the department’s research strengths. The department is collegial and friendly, and has a strong research culture. The majority of our PhD students come from overseas. Details of the research interests of staff and current PhD students can be found at http://infosci.otago.ac.nz/research/. One of the department’s areas of strength is autonomous agents and multi-agent systems.
The University of Otago offers generous PhD scholarships to competitive applicants, covering tuition fees and an annual stipend of $25000. We invite students with A/A+ grades and demonstrated research experience (preferably in the form of research publications) to apply for the scholarship.
Otago, NZ’s oldest university, is ranked within the top 3% of universities in the world. The main campus of the University is located in Dunedin, a picturesque and vibrant university city. Based on QS Stars University ranking of 2014/2015, Otago University is ranked 159 in the world in the subject area of Computer Science and Information Systems (http://goo.gl/l9V3Ww).
Under the New Zealand government's policy all PhD students studying at Otago are required to pay fees at the domestic level only. Furthermore, this policy allows the children of all international PhD students to attend school without paying international student fees, and the partners to apply for an open work permit valid for the duration of the student's course of study.
All interested individuals are encouraged to contact the Department before applying for PhD admission and scholarships to ensure the full support of the Department.
