The Web is the largest human information construct in history and it is transforming society. In order to understand what the Web is, shape its future and ensure its social benefit the new interdisciplinary field of Web Science has been created with the University of Southampton at its forefront. The Web and Internet Science (WAIS) research group at Southampton has pioneered the fundamental work that led to the creation of this field. Research is wide ranging and includes work on Big Data Analytics, Collective Intelligence, Complexity, Cyber Security, Human Computer Interaction, Internet of Things, Life Logging, Multi-Agent Systems, Multimedia Retrieval, Open Data, Privacy, Provenance and Trust, Sematic Web, Social Machines, Structural and Formal Analysis of The Web, Web Enhanced Learning, Web Governance and Policy. It is one of the largest groups of its kind in the world with 20 faculty members and over 100 researchers and PhD students.

We are looking for outstanding scholars in any area of Web Science to become part of this group and work with researchers from other disciplines across the University and from around the world in this exciting new field. Successful candidates will have a background in one of the core Web Science research disciplines and be able to demonstrate the ability to undertake interdisciplinary research and to contribute to the teaching of Computer Science, Web Science or Data Science (undergraduate or postgraduate level).

You will demonstrate a substantial external reputation in your field, evidence of independent research leadership and evidence of academic potential through quality research publications.
