Applications are invited for two fully-funded PhD doctoral positions
("wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter") in the research field "Distributed and
Intelligent Cooperative Systems" of the new Research Training Group
(RTG) "SocialCars" established at Niedersächsiche Technische Hochschule
in Braunschweig and Clausthal, Germany. SocialCars is funded by the
German Research Foundation (DFG).
The positions are available from April 2014 for a duration of three years.
The overall objective of the interdisciplinary SocialCars RTG is to
research new methods and applications of decentralized, cooperative
traffic management. SocialCars focuses on the interplay of centralized
management (i.e., classic traffic control) and decentralized management
(i.e., taking the goals of individual traffic participants into account).
The two PhD students will perform research in the area of multiagent
traffic modeling, simulation, and management. Possible topics comprise
distributed traffic information processing and data analysis,
coordination strategies including Car-to-X communication, and methods
for cooperative traffic control.
We are looking for strong candidates with a background in computer
science or business informatics, and with expertise in at least one of
the following fields:
* computational norms and electronic instituiions
* models and applications of game theory for traffic and transport
* distributed data analysis
* distributed trust and reputation
* multiagent-based modeling and simulation
* traffic and transport control and engineering
SocialCars is a strongly interdisciplinary effort, therefore successful
candidates should enjoy working on a team with scientists from other
areas; also, they should be interested in applying their theories,
concepts, and prototypes to (simulated) real-world applications.
Candidates will find an excellent open research environment on the
premises of the Automotive Research Center Niedersachsen (NFF) in
Braunschweig; at the same time, they will be part of the research group
of Prof. Jörg Müller at TU Clausthal, and spend some of their time there.
The screening of candidates will begin on February 15, 2014, and end
when all positions are filled.
Applicants may be asked to attend an assessment workshop in
Braunschweig, Germany, in March 2014.

apply is available at
