Dear all
We are glad to invite submissions to the Automotive IUI workshop that
will take place at the Intelligent User Interfaces Conference in February
2014 in Israel.
Please see the CFP below.

 *Auto IUI Workshop *
*February 24, 2014 – 09:00-12:00*
*Haifa, Israel *
https://sites.google.com/site/gmiuiautomotiveworkshop
*Overview*
With the advent of technology and connectivity, Automotive User Interfaces
are becoming increasingly complex and now host a variety of nontraditional
applications. At the same time, Automotive UIs have also specific
limitations imposed by the driving environment, driver attention
limitations, safety considerations, and the organization of space inside
the vehicle.

Consequently, the automotive environment provides new challenges in
computer science and IUI disciplines. It is only natural to suggest that
the automotive UI can benefit from the combination of a detailed HCI with
smart agents. A more natural agent-driver interaction will be achieved when
such intelligent agents model, reason, and act upon their users,
environment and the car state. Improved applications will deliberate on
their content, timing, and interface. Such intelligent user interfaces
dedicated to the automotive domain will enable better integration of our
transportation means in the modern connected and digital world.

In this workshop, we will ask the IUI community to share their
automotive-relevant research directions and research results. We will ask
researchers from the automotive domain to share the state of the art of IUI
and to challenge the IUI community to address some of the burning issues in
need for resolution in the next few years
The Auto-IUI workshop serves several purposes. The primary purpose is to
bring together researchers in the field of IUI and experts from the
automotive domain to build a community that focuses on challenges and
solutions for the automotive industry. Moreover, we aim to identify future
industry trends and directions for future research, and to discuss
challenges resulting from the topics mentioned below. Lastly, Auto-IUI
seeks to bring together researchers from different disciplines together in
order to facilitate consensus among different models and methods, thus
making the field more accessible to new researchers and practitioners.
*Topics*
Automotive IUI refers to the user experience in an automotive setting,
comprising (1) interactions between drivers and passengers and the
different systems in the car, (2) user and system modeling, (3) Interfaces
and multiple modalities, and (4) learning. Topics of particular interest
include:

   - Human Automation Interaction,
   - Contextual Human Machine Interaction
   - Adaptive Automation
   - Adaptive Displays
   - User Modeling
   - Multimodal Interaction

*Workshop Format*
We will divide the workshop into four parts. First, the automotive needs
will be laid out and described. Then, IUI research that aims at solving
automotive challenges will be presented. Finally, there will be a
discussion on the gaps between the needs and the available solutions. An
automotive demonstration will wrap up the workshop. The purpose of this
workshop is to create an automotive IUI community. Therefore, an emphasis
will be put on the discussion among the participants.

Total length of the workshop will be half day (09:00 – 12:00).

· Authors from the automotive domain are expected to submit a
one-page abstract describing needs and challenges for an automotive IUI.
· Authors from the IUI research domains are expected to submit a
one-page abstract describing research approaches that are relevant to the
automotive domain and could be applied.
The program committee will decide, based on the number of submissions, on
an oral or poster presentations.

At least one author of each paper should register to the conference by
early registration deadline, ending at January 17th. Notice that
registration must be made both to the workshop and to the main conference.
There will be no option to attend workshops only.
