Dear Colleagues,

The Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), Erasmus University, invites applications for an Assistant Professorship in Information Systems. The position is in the Department of Decision and Information Sciences.

The Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, located in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, is a top-ranked international business school renowned for its ground-breaking research in sustainable business practice and for the development of future global business leaders. Offering an array of bachelors, masters, doctoral, MBA and executive education programs, RSM is consistently ranked amongst the top 10 business schools in Europe; it has a research ranking of 3rd in Europe, with its full-time and executive MBA programs ranked in the top 30 world-wide, and its international CEMS M.Sc. Program ranked 2nd in Europe.

We are inviting candidates with an appreciation for real-world problems and how to deal with them by state-of-the art academic approaches. The research group has experience with several areas of Supply Chain Management and Information Systems. For example, being located in Rotterdam, the largest port of Europe, over the years the research group has been active in logistics (transportation, storage, information exchange) related to the port of Rotterdam. It has also developed specific expertise in sustainable supply chain issues, including closed loop and energy supply chain challenges using agent-based systems, and the use of inter-organizational information systems, for instance flower and plants trading. We are specifically looking for a person that will strengthen the Learning Agents Research Group at Erasmus (www.large.rsm.nl<http://www.large.rsm.nl>) and the Erasmus Center on Future Energy Business (www.rsm.nl/energy<http://www.rsm.nl/energy>). The research agenda of the centers contains three overlapping streams and members do novel work in analytical, empirical, and experimental research using agent-based multi-echelon smart market platforms. Stream 1: Business Analytics (historical data analysis and modeling), Stream 2: Competitive Business Simulation (autonomous decision automation including dynamic market and decision modeling), and Stream 3: Business Decision Support (real-time agent-assisted decision making).

The successful candidate will initiate research through the Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM), a research collaboration between the Rotterdam School of Management and the Erasmus School of Economics. Desired qualifications include:

  * a thorough analytical background, for example in business administration, operations management, information systems, computer science
  * a strong research record related to information systems problems, demonstrated by publications in the top academic journals in this field
  * the ability to inspire and stimulate others to achieve a high level of performance in research, including the coaching of PhD students
  * a clear interest in the interface between academic research in computational intelligence and related fields (e.g. data mining and machine learning), and logistical and supply chain problems in practice, for example related to sustainable energy supply chain issues, or other relevant areas
  * experience with university-level teaching; we expect that the candidate will teach a core and elective course in the MSc of Business Information Management
  * didactical and leadership qualities, and managerial skills for developing and managing educational and research projects

For further information, a candidate briefing document with more detailed information about the position is available from Mr Peter Elsing, pelsing at rsm.nl<mailto:pelsing at rsm.nl>. Applicants should send an electronic copy of their letter of interest, curriculum vitae, a research statement, a teaching statement, two recent (working) papers and names of three referees to the Chairman of the department Dr Peter van Baalen, pbaalen at rsm.nl<mailto:pbaalen at rsm.nl>, the Scientific Director of the Energy Center, Dr. Wolf Ketter, wketter at rsm.nl<mailto:wketter at rsm.nl>, and Prof. Dr Eric van Heck, evanheck at rsm.nl<mailto:evanheck at rsm.nl>.
