Applications are invited for a Research Fellow position in the Agents,
Interaction and Complexity Group (http://www.aic.ecs.soton.ac.uk/
<http://www.aic.ecs.soton.ac.uk/>>), in the School of Electronics and
Computer Science at the University of Southampton. The School is the
largest of its kind in the UK and in the last Research Assessment Exercise
(in 2008) Computer Science was ranked joint second in the UK for the
quality of its research, with 85 per cent of its research work being rated
as either world leading or internationally excellent.

The research position will be associated with the Intelligent
Decentralised Energy Systems project (http://www.ideasproject.info/
<http://www.ideasproject.info/>>). This project aims to explore the issues
associated with the decentralised control, operation and management of
future generation electricity networks. It is targeted at scenarios in
which micro-generation and storage capabilities are ubiquitous, where
intelligent sensing devices allow users to make informed choices about the
control of devices in their home, and where producers and consumers are
connected via a series of dynamically negotiated supply contracts. This is
an industrially funded project from a Hampshire-based company. The post
will specifically look at the multi-agent aspects of such systems and so
experience with game theory, mechanism design, distributed control and/or
machine learning is highly desirable. Expertise or past experience in the
domain of energy systems is not essential.

The successful candidate will work with Professor Nick Jennings and Dr
Alex Rogers and will join an internationally renowned team applying
techniques from game theory, mechanism design, and multi-agent systems to
a range of complex real-world problems.

You should possess a PhD in a relevant discipline (Computer Science,
Engineering, Mathematics, Operations Research, or Economics) and have
established a strong research pedigree in your area (as evidenced by
publications in top quality journals and conferences).

The post is fixed term for two years in the first instance and will
