Last Call for one PostDoctoral and one PhD position on the EU Robotic Project RUBICON - Robotic UBIquitous COgnitive Network.
The positions are available at the CLARITY Centre for SensorWeb Technology group
(http://www.clarity-centre.org), University College Dublin (UCD) (http://www.ucd.ie), Ireland.
With RUBICON, UCD will co-ordinate a world-leading consortium at the forefront of research
in Cognitive Robotics and Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) to create a self-learning robotic ecology consisting of a network of sensors, effectors and mobile robot devices.
Enabling robots to seamlessly operate as part of these robotic ecologies is an important challenge
for robotics R&D, in order to support applications such as AAL, environmental monitoring, and security.
A RUBICON ecology will be able to teach itself its environment and learn to improve the way it carries out different tasks. Its participants will mutually support one another’s learning, in order to dentify, commission and fulfil tasks more effectively and efficiently.
To achieve this, the project will combine robotics, efficient component & data abstraction,
multi-agent systems, robot/WSN middleware, novelty detection, dynamic planning,
with statistical and computational neuroscience methods.
To drive this project, we are seeking a post-doctoral researcher with a computational and AI background.
The research work will be performed in collaboration with the partners of the European project, and will focus specifically on deliberation and control, with an emphasis on learning in multi-agent systems. Specific research directions will include middleware services for introspection, adaptive goal deliberation and plan selection, and the integration of AI reasoning methods to achieve self-sustaining, continuous learning.
Both positions are available immediately.
The closing date for postdoc applications is 10-Apr-2011 23:30 GMT.
For more details and for applying to the postdoc position please visit http://www.ucd.ie/hr/jobvacancies/, Reference number: 004483
The PhD position will be fully-funded for up to 3 years through a tax-free scholarship of circa €18,000 per annum, in addition to paid tuition fees, and will include exciting opportunities to work directly with Rubicon's research and industrial partners as part of a structured PhD programme within UCD.
Interested PhD candidates should send a detailed curriculum vitae, letter of application, copies of relevant university transcripts/most relevant publications and for non native English speakers evidence of English Language competence (TOEFL, IELTS) to mauro.dragone at ucd.ie.
