Overview
-------------
Robots are agents, too.  Indeed, agent researchers are sometimes
inspired by robots, sometimes use robots in motivating examples, and
sometimes make contributions to robotics. Both practical and
analytical techniques in agent research influence, and are influenced by,
research into autonomous robots and multi-robot systems. Areas of
particular recent cross-fertilization include (but are not limited
to):

 - motion planning and path planning for single and multiple mobile robots
 - market-based for coalition formation and task allocation
 - machine learning in robotics
 - multi-robot teams and swarms
 - human-agent-robot teamwork 
 - analysis of large-scale multi-robot systems and swarms
 - decision-theoretic single- and multi-robot planning
 - imitation and learning by demonstration/example
 - formal methods and control architectures
 - Canonical robotics problems, such as robotic soccer, coverage, 
   foraging, or patrolling

Despite the rich cross-fertilization between AAMAS and robotics
research areas, roboticists and agents researchers have only a few
opportunities to meet and interact. The recently established robotics
track at AAMAS is one such opportunity. The goal of the proposed
workshop is to extend and widen this opportunity, by offering a forum
where researchers in this area of research can interact and present
promising innovative research directions, and new results. The
workshop is coordinated and associated with the AAMAS robotics track.

This year's ARMS workshop includes a special session on Agents In
Motion (AIM), on the subject of coordinating the motions of autonomous
robots/agents such as automated guided vehicles (e.g. at container
terminals or in manufacturing), vehicles in partially known and
dynamic environments (e.g., the DARPA urban street challenge), and
even taxiing aircraft at the airport.

We hope this special session on AIM will bring together researchers
from the various fields in which multi-agent motion coordination is
relevant, such as robotics, AI planning, production research, and to
enable cross-fertilization between the ideas of the different fields.

Submissions and Publication

Contributions are sought in all areas of robotics, in particular as
related to autonomous agents research, but not necessarily so.
Theoretical papers are welcome, as long as they clearly address
challenges in robotics. Empirical studies should ideally present
experiments with real robots, though physical simulation studies are
also acceptable.  Papers that focus on mechanical aspects and
low-level control should be make an effort to relate to the agents
community.

Accepted papers will be published in the Springer proceedings of the AAMAS workshops.
Submissions should follow Springer's LNCS format (see http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html) and
should not exceed 20 pages in length.
