Agent-oriented Design methods and Programming Techniques for Distributed
Computing in Dynamic and Complex Environments

http://www.agentgroup.unimore.it/SI_SCP_2011.html

SCOPE
---------

Agent-based approaches become quite popular as design methods and
programming techniques for distributed computing. In particular, they
find their way to dynamic and complex environments, where they provide
the much needed robustness and flexibility. As a cause and effect of
this process we observe that the field of agent technology is rapidly
maturing. Here, the gathered body of knowledge allows in-depth
reflection on the nature of designing and implementing agent systems. As
a result, understanding of most important issues to be addressed in the
process arises. Such understanding materializes in (1) methodologies for
design of agent-based systems, (2) development of tools that guide the
process towards implementation, (3) increasing maturity of agent tools /
platforms / environments.

In the Special Issue we are primarily interested in the pathway from the
model of the problem domain to the actual agent-based solution. These
aspects will cover both principled approaches and established practices
of software engineering aimed at producing high quality software.

Relevant topics include (but are not limited to) the following:
•	Agent modeling, calculi, and logics for distributed computing
•	Methodologies for design of agent systems
•	Agent frameworks and programming tools
•	Agent architectures for distributed computing
•	Agent-based simulations of dynamic and complex environments
•	Agent benchmarking and performance measurement in distributed environments
•	Agent communication, coordination and cooperation in dynamic and
complex environments
•	Mobile agent systems: code mobility management and programming toolkits
•	Agent-based middleware for distributed computing
•	Agent-based applications and experiences in dynamic and complex
distributed environments

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
-------------------------------------
Original high-quality contributions that have been neither published in
nor simultaneously submitted to any journals or refereed conferences are
welcomed. Submissions will be peer-reviewed using the standard
refereeing procedure of the Journal of Science of Computer Programming
(http://www.elsevier.com/wps/find/journaldescription.cws_home/505623/description#description)

Please prepare your submission based on EES templates. Author guidelines
can be found here
http://www.elsevier.com/wps/find/journaldescription.cws_home/505623/authorinstructions
The length of the paper is between 15 and 20 pages.

Submission is to be completed via the EES website located at:
http://ees.elsevier.com/scico/default.asp
To ensure that the manuscript is correctly identified for inclusion into
the special issue, authors must select SI:Agents for Distributed
Computing when they reach the “Article Type” step in the submission process.
