Vacancy of a research associate position "Ontologies, Argumentation, Multi-Agent Systems" in University of Lille 1

Applications are invited for the position of research associate
working on the Ubiquitous Virtual Seller (VVU) project initiated by
the competitivity institute on Trading Industries (PICOM).

This project aims at ameliorating the integration of a conversational
agent in commercial trading websites in order to improve their
transformation ratio (sales/visitors). The main goal is to adapt
interactions to particular selling situations.

The project, carried out for the University Lille 1, by the
Multi-Agents Systems and Behaviors (SMAC, http://www.lifl.fr/SMAC)
team of the Fundamental Computer Science Laboratory (LIFL), will be
done in close collaboration with, among other, Artificial Solutions, 3
Suisses International and Oxylane Group.

The successful candidate will be responsible for constructing selling
ontologies and providing the reasoning of virtual seller agents in
selling situations defined by the project. The postholder will be
expected to have significant experience in computer science research,
essentially in agents technologies, ontological engineering, knowledge
reasoning (ideally argumentation logic).

The candidate should have the ability to make research of high level,
proved by a defended (or soon to be defended) PhD and good record of
high-quality academic publications.

Apart of that, the candidate should be able to develop, implement,
evaluate and validate his ideas through software prototypes. The
candidate should have solid object-oriented and logic programming
experiences and knowledges in languages as Java and Prolog under Linux
environment. The candidate should also master web development under
J2EE framework.

Finally the candidate should be able to participate in the correction
of proposed solutions with non-academic project partners.

The post is available for 18 months starting on 1st September of 2009.

Un contrat de post-doctorant associé au projet Vendeur Virtuel
Ubiquitaire (VVU) initié par le pôle de compétitivité Industries du
Commerce (PICOM) est ouvert.

Le projet VVU a pour objectif d'améliorer l'intégration d'agents
conversationnels dans des sites webs marchands afin d'améliorer leur
taux de transformation (ventes/visiteurs). L'objectif principal est
d'adapter les dialogues à des situations de ventes particulières.

Le projet porté pour l'Université Lille 1, par l'équipe Système
Multi-Agents et Comportements (SMAC, http://www.lifl.fr/SMAC) du
Laboratoire d'Informatique Fondamentale de Lille (LIFL) sera mené en
collaboration avec, notamment, Artificial Solutions, 3 Suisses
International et Oxylane Group.

Le candidat sera responsable de la construction d'une ontologie de la
vente et de la proposition d'un moteur de raisonnement pour l'agent
vendeur dans le cadre des scenari de vente définis par le projet. Il
devra avoir une expérience significative en recherche en informatique,
dans les domaines spécifiques des agents, ontologies, du raisonnement
logique et de l'argumentation.

Il devra avoir la capacité de mener des recherches de haut niveau,
capacité qu'il aura validé notamment par l'obtention d'un doctorat en
informatique, la publication en revues et/ou congrès internationaux
avec comités de sélection.

Outre ses compétences en terme de recherche fondamentale, le candidat
devra être à même de développer, implanter, évaluer et valider ses
idées sous la forme de prototypes logiciels. Pour cela, il devra
maîtriser la programmation orientée-objet et la programmation logique
dans un langage tel Java et Prolog en environnement Linux. Il devra
par ailleurs également maîtriser le développement logiciel en
environnement web J2EE.

En outre, il devra être capable de participer à la correction de
solutions avec les partenaires du projet, hors secteur recherche
académique.

Le poste est ouvert pour 18 mois à compter du 1er septembre 2009.
