The Journal of Artificial Societies and Social Simulation (http://jasss.soc.surrey.ac.uk) published issue 1 of Volume 12 on 31-Jan-2009.

JASSS is an electronic, refereed journal devoted to the exploration and understanding of social processes by means of computer simulation. It is freely available, with no subscription.
=================

This is one of our largest ever issues, with eight articles, three contributions to the Forum, and five book reviews. In the peer-reviewed article section, Luca Arciero et al. show how simulation could be useful for understanding the mechanisms underlying the credit crunch, and Tatiana Filatova et al. describe a model relating to the US/European housing market crisis. Luis Izquierdo et al. show how Markov Chain Analysis can be used to understand better the dynamics of simulation models and Galán et al. classify the types of error that can trouble agent-based models. Other articles contribute to the burgeoning literature on modelling social dilemmas, offer an explanation for why many societies venerate their ancestors, and show how simulation can be used to design e-learning systems.

In the Forum, Pawel Sobkowicz complains that models of opinion dynamics have too little connection to real world opinion formation, and there are two responses to Joshua Epstein's essay, Why model?, published in the previous issue's Forum.

Among the five books reviewed, two are concerned with neuroeconomics and two with the application of complex adaptive systems.

Your opinion sought: JASSS is considering moving from the present HTML format for articles to PDF. There are arguments for both (e.g. HTML is lightweight, easily searchable; PDF is better at displaying mathematics and prints better) and I would be interested in your opinion about whether we should stay as we are or move to PDF.
