The British University in Dubai (BUiD) is a new, leading post-graduate
research-based university based in Dubai. It was established with the
help of the University of Edinburgh. It offers MSc programmes in
Informatics jointly with the University of Edinburgh and the
University of Manchester. The aim of the university is to create a
seed for world-class research in the region.

Two "Research Fellow" positions are available to take part in a
project jointly funded by BUiD and Tejari LLC, the leading
business-to-business electronic commerce service provider in the
Middle-East. The project aims at developing cutting edge artificial
intelligence technologies and applying them in a real-world context.

Research will be conducted in the Dubai Agents and Multi Agent Systems
group, the first of its kind in the Arab world. The group aspires to
the highest academic standards, and publishes regularly in top
conferences and journals such as AAMAS, AAAI, IAT, Artificial
Intelligence Journal, Applied AI, Journal of Autonomous Agents and
Multiagent Systems, IEEE Intelligent Systems, etc.

The group is lead by:

Sherief Abdallah
PhD, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, USA

Group web page: http://homepages.inf.ed.ac.uk/irahwan/damas/

The project will explore advanced matchmaking and reputation
management in electronic markets, using state-of-the-art Artificial
Intelligence techniques. The work will result in theoretical
foundations, empirical simulation, and system prototypes that may lead
to subsequent commercialization.

We are looking for highly motivated individuals who are interested in
research that is both highly technical and applicable. The ideal
candidates will possess PhDs in computer science or related
discipline, and have expertise in one or more of the following areas:

- Machine learning, including reinforcement learning;
- Data mining, including graph/network mining;
- Game theory and mechanism design;
- Reputation and matchmaking systems;
- Computational models of argument;
- Multi-agent systems;

The total package, depending on experience, is highly competitive (tax-free):
- Salary: $45,000+ per annum
- Housing contribution: $16,000+ per annum
- Set-up package: $10,000+

The positions will be for an initial period of 18 months, starting
October 2008 onwards, with possible extension subject to funding.
